Senior Design Engineer

The OpportunityWe are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to support projects in the design of equipment such as subsea robotics and spacecraft design. The role will lead the design and development of critical CAD models and simulations for projects such as the upcoming lunar rover mission as well as subsea robotic related client requirements and project needs. This role requires a deep thorough understanding of computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D modelling, engineering principles and robotics. This role will work from our West Perth office location. 

This role will work closely with internal Fugro clients to plan and design mechanical objects such as subsea robotics, equipment, and rovers to support project requirements.  Required to collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the creation of accurate, fit-for-task designs that align with the project's objectives and requirements. 

Responsibilities include:

•    Responsible for designing intricate 3D CAD models for subsea robotics and spacecraft design, including mechanical equipment, components, systems, and overall architecture for construction.•    Develop the specifications for the manufacturing process – including materials and required equipment•    Establish standards, testing plans, and modification plans to guarantee the precision, feasibility, and manufacturability of the designs•    Implement CAD best practices to optimise robotics/equipment performance, weight, and robustness.•    Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to grasp design requirements and constraints.•    Work with project managers to align, design and develop with project milestones and deadlines.•    Engage in design evaluations and contribute insights to enhance robotics/rover/equipment performance and functionalities.•    Provide models and support for simulations and analyses, including finite element analysis, to assess equipment performance across diverse scenarios.•    Carry out reviews and interpretation of outcomes and recommend design refinements to elevate equipment capabilities.•    Ensure comprehensive documentation of CAD designs, modelling methodologies, calculations, and simulation findings.•    Generate regular progress updates for project stakeholders, spotlighting achievements, obstacles, and proposed solutions.

 

About YouYour success in securing this role will require: 

•    Degree / Higher Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.•    Over 5 years previous experience in a similar role•    Extensive hands-on experience in CAD design and 3D modelling, preferably within consumer commercial, aerospace, robotics, or comparable sectors•    Proficiency in CAD software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or analogous tools•    Profound comprehension of mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing techniques.•    Demonstrated expertise, encompassing team collaboration and the execution of intricate projects from inception to fruition.•    Exceptional communication skills - facilitate the effective conveyance of technical information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
