Summary

The Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization at the University of Michigan is seeking an Intermediate Web Developer to work within the Digital User Experience team in the Marketing and Communications department. Working closely with others on the team, the Intermediate Web Developer will focus on administering web Content Management Systems (Drupal/WordPress), updating content as requested, and assisting with the back-end maintenance of websites.

This position will report to the Digital User Experience Team Manager.

Responsibilities*

In this position, the intermediate web developer will be responsible for contributing to the front and back-end creation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting for websites. The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with a talented team of web developers, information architects, UX designers, multimedia designers, and communication specialists. Daily work will be a combination of operational work as well making technical and tactical contributions to projects.

Specific duties include:

  • Participate in the design, configuration, installation, and maintenance efforts for Drupal (and WordPress) websites and pages for the university, while adhering to brand standard and supporting the overall web strategy.
  • Contribute to the web design group's efforts to specify, improve, and implement the look, feel, and function of online projects. Work in this space will support the organization's strategies and goals relative to external and internal communications.
  • Interface directly with users, writers, multimedia designers, service managers, and department leadership.
  • Follow and contribute to departmental processes that guide technical work, including those around tickets and change.
  • Work with website content creators to resolve website issues and assist in updating content affecting them.
  • Work with web hosting providers to resolve website issues and keep websites running optimally.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 years of directly related professional work experience in web development
  • Knowledge of and experience with Drupal implementations, theme hooks and modules, and OOP PHP development experience
  • Experience building, configuring and maintaining Drupal 10 and WordPress websites
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues and to recommend areas for improvement or innovation
  • Skills: Drupal, Twig, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, APIs, Git, Linux/Mac command line tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
  • Experience working with enterprise systems

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Remote work is currently available with the possibility to renew every year based on University and ITS leadership directive, business needs, and/or performance. Normal amount of remaining in a stationary position, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amounts of work at a computer, may require travel. May require work outside of normal business hours. Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance required.
