Position Overview:
The Transport Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the transport operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods. This role involves strategic planning, management of staff, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
· Operational Management:
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the transportation operations within the company.
- Develop and implement transportation policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Monitor and manage the performance of transport staff and drivers to ensure operational efficiency.
· Strategic Planning:
- Develop long-term strategies to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with senior management to align transport operations with overall business goals.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions.
· Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the transport department budget.
- Monitor and control expenditure to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Analyse financial reports to make informed decisions regarding transportation operations.
· Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all transport activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Implement safety protocols and ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high safety standards.
· Customer Service:
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their transport needs are met efficiently.
- Address and resolve any customer complaints or issues promptly.
- Continuously seek feedback to improve service delivery.
· Team Leadership:
- Lead, motivate, and develop the transport team to achieve departmental goals.
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide training and development opportunities.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in transport management or a similar role.
- Comprehensive understanding of transport regulations and industry standards.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in the use of transport management software and MS Office Suite.
- Strong financial acumen and budgeting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
