Job Description:
ON SITE REQUIRED: Right now, VSP team is generally working 4 days on site and 1 day off based on the Governor's directive. This is subject to change in either direction. This could also change based on the demands of the project, so it is possible that there will be weeks where they need to be on site (5 days) all week. If selected, they need to plan to be on site 4 days a week and be available to be on site as needed.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Virginia State Police is seeking a Web Developer in the IT Division. This position will be reporting to the Website Coordinator and joining a highly dynamic and results oriented team. This position will be a key resource in providing enhancements and security for multiple WordPress applications. Work will support highway safety, emergency messaging, lead acquisition as well as several public outreach programs.
This position will be responsible for:
Working across the full stack, building, maintaining and optimizing scalable, distributed features and solutions that enable positive user experiences across desktop and mobile
Developing new features in support of business and project requirements
Managing vendor support as needed for maintenance and enhancement
Working with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices and pursuing continued learning opportunities
Requirements:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field; considerable software implementation experience
Proficiency in PHP
Understanding of WordPress architecture
Understanding of SQL
Understanding of REST API
Ability to work as team member on web development projects end-to-end
Proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles
Knowledge of front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Knowledge of secure coding practices
Outstanding communication skills
