Structural Engineer Draftsman


Hot Weld Fabrication is seeking a Structural Engineer Draftsman to work in their busy steel fabrication office in Bunbury, South West of Perth WA.

The role will include:

  • To analyses the statical properties of all types of structures, tests the behaviour and durability of materials used in their construction, and designs and supervises the construction of all types of structures
  • Provide detailing of shop drawings for commercial, mining and residential projects and others as directed reporting to the Project Manager(s) within a busy steel fabrication business
  • Determining construction methods, materials and quality standards, and drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures
  • Detailing of shop drawings from Architectural and Engineering drawings and specifications
  • Studying Architectural and Engineering drawings and specifications to estimate costs and preparing detailed cost plans and estimates as tools to assist
  • Planning, organising and directing how to deliver site labour, construction materials, and plant and equipment services for each project in consultation with the Managing Director, Project Manager, and Site Supervisor as required
  • Analysing structural systems for both static and dynamic loads
  • Establishing detailed programs for the coordination of site activities
  • Assessing present and future travel flow patterns taking into account population increase and needs change
  • Monitor changes to designs, assessing effects on cost, measuring , valuing and negotiating variations to designs
  • Designing structures to ensure they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways

You will be required to:

  • Deliver on behalf of the company excellent customer service and communication to both existing and new customers
  • Solve problems and make decisions as required
  • Have a solid understanding of construction and building codes
  • Have a strong understanding of structural engineering principles
  • Effectively meet project deadlines 

Position available is full time, working 5 days a week.

Must be able to undergo pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.

Training and supervision will be provided.

Experience in the position is required with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, certification or experience using CAD software, and experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology.

Base Annual Salary is $70,000 to $75,000
